A big thanks to the PTO for providing funding so that our Kindergarten artists could paint on canvas! One of my favorite units we celebrate in K with Ms. Judy. I believe the final products will be displayed this summer in a gallery space!

Today was our first time splitting up the kids in each of the kindergarten classes - we either stayed in our classroom and was a choice teacher (showing our friends from the other class how to use the different stations) or we were a guest in the different K classroom. Everyone seemed to have fun playing with new friends. Here are some photos from the switch up in Ms. Emily's room! Thanks to a generous grant from the Vermont Arts Council and the IAA PTO, The Integrated Arts Academy is thrilled to host the Burlington Taiko Group again! Stuart Paton, founder and master teacher led a 10 day residency beginning on Monday, December 5th, and ending on Friday, December 16th. As a resident artist, Stuart worked directly with all students and classes, pre-K through grade 5. Each class learned an individual drumming piece, and the cultural components of taiko related to community. It was a fantastic residency!! We will add more videos next week!
We snapped a photo of each new kindergartener on their first day of school! We will post kids pictures soon but want to wait until open house to see if anyone chooses to opt out of having their kiddos picture on our class website. We had a terrific first day despite the rain at recess :)
We had a great time meeting everyone who came out to the Open House and Back to School BBQ! We are looking forward to working with you this year and seeing everyone on the big playground on Wednesday, August 31st. The K classes line up on the left side of the black top when looking at the cafeteria doors. We will have bagged lunches in the classroom and you can pick up from the classroom doors on the Walnut Street side of the building at 11:30. Thanks!

We went on a short hike, made a sketch of the river/wetlands habitat we observed, had a picnic lunch and played some games! The kids had a blast on this outdoor adventure and none of it would have been possible without the help of our amazing parent volunteers. Thanks again so much for all your support to make this happen! We spotted some poison ivy along the way and really tried to stay on the path but wanted to put that information out there.
Just wanted to throw out a reminder that both Kindergarten classes will be traveling to the Ethan Allen Homestead! We will check out a few different habitats and sketch what we see there. We plan on comparing our observations to the notes and predictions we made after learning about a variety of different habitats. The bus will be here at 8:45 and we will be leaving by 9 AM. We will have a picnic lunch at 11:15 and return to school by 12 PM. Please send your child to school with sunscreen on and sneakers for our mini hike! A big thanks to all the parent volunteers that are making this trip possible : )
Here's a sneak peak of the Kindergarten students working on their song with Mr. Jon Gailmor. I gave the class the choice to write a song about anything we have done this year so far....I thought they would pick recess or choice but nope they decided math! Love this crew so much! Nature Treasure Hunt
We are in need of parent volunteers to help both classes on a nature treasure hunt. On Thursday, October 29th we will take both classes to Pomeroy Park on a walking field trip. We hope to have at least 6 parents come with us from 10AM until about 12 PM. We will hide some natural materials in the park and then have each team of kids try to find each of the objects using their power of sight! We Will then collect the natural materials and each class will work together to create a mural with all the found treasure. Please check in with Ms. Maggie or Ms. Emily if you would like to come along for the field trip. We also need help collecting natural materials to scatter around the park. If you could help by bringing in a collection of these asterisks that would be great; acorns, black walnuts, birch bark, chestnuts, rocks, shells, pine cones, milkweed pods, pine needles, small sticks etc. These items would not be returned to you, but instead used in our natural object collage. Kindergarten Families!
We hope to see you at the Open House tonight. We will be meeting in the classrooms at 6 PM and then heading to the cafeteria at 6:30 for supper. Hello Parents, Caregivers and Students! Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year of Kindergarten at the Integrated Arts Academy! Miss Maggie and Miss Emily have had such a great time getting to know everyone and we both feel thrilled to be starting a new year at IAA with all of you! This is our Kindergarten webpage and we often use this site to explain upcoming events, request volunteers, and share information and photos. We are still waiting for any opt out photo release forms to come in before posting pictures of the first few weeks of school - but we have lots of great photos! We are both looking forward to the Kindergarten Open House Night - coming up on September 16th at 6:00 PM. We hope to see everyone there to talk about our plans for this year, ways you can help support the the classroom and how we integrate the arts in our curriculum! Thanks so much for your support - we look forward to a great first year for your child at IAA! - Miss Emily and Miss Maggie Please join us for a Gingerbread Celebration on Wednesday, Dec 17th at 12:30. We will be celebrating our literary work around the many different tales of the Gingerbread Man (and girl and baby). We would love to have more adult support as students make their own gingerbread houses and creations.
We are hoping for donations of graham crackers, m&ms, cinnamon drops, gum drops , smarties etc. We will provide the dough and frosting. Please let us know if you can join us! |
