The Kindergarten students had a great time learning about the parts of a flower and studying the work of Georgia O'keeffe. We took a moment to slow down and really notice the small details in the beautiful spring flowers that are starting to bloom. Thanks to funding from the PTO we were able to create a masterpiece on a canvas with acrylic paints.
Here the kindergarten students in Ms. Emily's class are acting out the final scene of the "The Bed." After listening to the story told by Ms. Joan we listed the different characters and story elements. Then we assigned roles to our group of actors and worked together to listen to the cues to know when it was our turn to deliver lines! Wow - what a talented group of actors to have so many different parts happening at once!
A video explaining the integrated arts unit around story elements and acting. We showed this video at our Integrated Arts Breakfast for those of you who were not able to make it!
Each Kindness
We had a two week dance residency with Ms. Tracy and focused on the book Each Kindness. We had lots of discussions about what it means to be kind and welcoming - something we really value at IAA. In fact, every single grade worked with this text and created dances to express our ideas about this book. At the end, we shared our dance with the 5th Graders and they shared their dance with us! Here are some photos and videos of this work!
Vincent Van Gogh
inspired us to study sunflowers!
We looked at the parts of a sunflower and made sketches after examinging them in the sceince center and on nature walks around the school. We then made prints of the sunflower and had a go at painting our own!
