Dear Kindergarten Families,
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year at the Integrated Arts Academy! We look forward to sharing an exciting, art-filled and educational Kindergarten experience with you. This year, school begins on Wednesday, August 25th– we will be meeting outside on the blacktop by the big playground just outside the cafeteria doors at 8:10. We want to give you some information about what to expect for the first week of school and how to prepare for this exciting day!
Please join us on the playground of Roosevelt Park (Little Rosie’s) on Friday, August 20th for an optional and fun meet and greet from 3-4 PM. We would like to invite families to meet the kindergarten team as well as meet each other. Little Rosie’s is located just around the corner from the IAA on Willow Street and St. Louis - we often take walking field trips to enjoy the big climbing structure. We look forward to meeting you there if you are able to make it!
On Tuesday, August 24th we will have a Kindergarten Open House from 1:00-2:00 PM to give the children a chance to check out the classrooms and meet each other before the first day of school. We will have a few activities out around the classroom and will hopefully settle any nerves about starting kindergarten (for both kids and parents).
We will have our first day of school on Wednesday, August 25th! Kindergarten students will have an early dismissal with an 11:30 AM pick up time on Wednesday to ease into the first week of school (the rest of the school will have a 1:50 PM pick up time).
On Thursday and Friday of this first week, we will be starting district mandated assessments, so we will again have a funky schedule. Ms. Emily’s class will be staying for the full day on Thursday, August 26th (2:50 pm pick up) and then have an early release day on Friday, August 27th (pick up at 11:30). Ms. Holly’s class will be doing the opposite, students will have an early release on Thursday, August 26th (11:30 pick up) and a full day on Friday, August 27th (2:50 pm pick up).
We will have bagged lunches available for all of the students Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and will eat in our classrooms before the early release. You may pack a lunch box if that would be easier for your family. If you have any questions regarding the schedule please don't hesitate to call and ask for some clarification.
On Monday, August 30th, we will resume the district's schedule with a 2:50 PM pick up time - also 2:50 pick up on Thursday and Friday. Every Wednesday we will have a 1:50 dismissal for district meetings. Please come to the outside classroom doors on the Walnut Street side of the building for pick up. It’s also worth noting that on Monday, September 6th there will be no school in honor of Labor Day.
Please help your kindergartener bring a backpack to school every day. We can each use backpacks to communicate information with each other and to share your child's work. We ask that you send your child to school in “play-clothes,” as kindergarten can sometimes get messy! Please be prepared for days when your child returns home somewhat less clean than he/she arrived. We believe children learn through exploration of their own environment and hands-on activities. Also, it's important to send your child to school in comfortable footwear, such as sneakers or slip-ons (flip flops are not a safe option, especially for the playground!). We often go out and explore the neighborhood with community walks. An extra set of clothing (socks and underwear too) in a bag with your child’s name on the bag will be stored in the classroom, if needed, or can stay in the back pack.
Before school begins we would love for you to start collecting items for our many community art projects and math learning. We invite your family (and friends!) to start collecting fun things for us to use in different projects throughout the year. This year we would like a variety of small objects for projects; such as (but not limited to) buttons, puzzle pieces, nuts, bolts, screws, corks, bread tags, game pieces (especially scrabble tiles), beads, keys, etc. Basically, if you think we can use it go ahead and bring it in! If you are able to donate extra items to the classroom we can always use cleaning wipes, Kleenex and/or Play-Doh. Please don't feel obligated to bring those in, just if you are able.
If your child needs any medication to be administered at school, please stop by the health office to sign the necessary paperwork and meet our lovely new school nurse, Nurse Ali. Also, please be sure to turn in your registration and immunization forms if you have not already done this!
Once again, we are truly excited to share all of the wonderful art experiences that lay in store for our students and parents in the upcoming year. You can reach Ms. Emily at [email protected] or (908) 303-4097 and Ms. Holly at [email protected] or (802) 264-9848. Thanks! We hope you enjoy the rest of your summer and remember to bring your curiosity and imagination this year!
